The battery shows a reasonable voltage in the parking lot, yet the starter hesitates on the first start of the day. Or the car starts normally until the rear defroster, blower, and lights are working together. A single voltage reading doesn't reproduce either situation. A useful seasonal check asks whether the battery can supply starting power and whether the vehicle can reliably replace that energy. It also looks at the connections and belt drive that make the system work. Those checks should produce more than a printout saying the voltage was acceptable at one moment. Establish Battery Charge Before Judging Condition State of charge describes how much energy the battery currently contains. Battery condition describes how well it can store and deliver energy.
